I think I figured out on my own that I must not have lupus? Would this be correct?

I know Lupus spares the folds of the skin by the nose and under the nose. I have never had the red coloring at all of the rash under the nose--was always normal. Now, just today I have some sunburnt red under parts of my nose--not completely all under.

So that would mean definitely not Lupus and just uctd?--Would that be correct? Out of all these years I've never had it red partly under the nose, this is the first time.

CindyLou,

None of us here are able to say either way whether your rash is caused by Lupus.

Remember anyone can get sunburn! My rash on my face is not sunburn and is present all the time, just looks worse when hot with heat and when suns out. If I did not put suncream on I would get sunburn on top of the rash that is already there!

You really need to see a dermatologist!

Hi Lesley

I think you misunderstood what I was talking about. My rash is present all the time also and never goes away.

My question is since I have never got red under my nose, and I do now, that would be a definite no for lupus--correct? Because with Lupus you don't have red under the nose?

Or am I mistaken? But if it was a sunburn under my nose wouldn't it cover the length under my nose. It's only halfway on each side and stops and directly under the middle is no red. It's very strange.

That was my question. Because I know a definite rash that goes under the nose rules out lupus and would just be uctd. Or am I not figuring this out correctly?

CindyLou as far as I'm aware the rule about rash not showing in folds near nose is just that a rule! It does not mean 100% of people with Lupus rash will present like that - there may be an exception! Some rashes people have are lumpy and red others are just a mild non-raised flush, some cover a cheek others the nose or just the chin or neck then some will get the rash over all possible usual areas! The Lupus face rash can either come and go or just stay!

Some people do get the rash on the area between lip and nose! Lupus suffers are more likely to get other rashes come and go just because of the sensitivity of their skin!

Its also amazing what different parts of our bodies catch the sun when they never have done before!

Until you see a specialist there is nothing that you can really figure out for definate, but just wonder about and be well informed when you get to your appointment!

We certainly can't say whether you have lupus or not. It is unlikely you can rule lupus in or out by yourself. Or any connective tissue disease of the lupus sort.
It is now up to you to decide whether you are going to consult a doctor or not and we can't do that for you. We have already given you our best advice and made practical suggestions as well as answering all your questions very patiently.
You have already got a diagnosis of fibro but you take no meds for it because it "doesn't bother " you, despite the fact that you are in pain at times. That's your choice of course but it's not clear to me why you are "bothered" whether you have an autoimmune disease connective tissue disease or not. Most people want answers because they are very "bothered".

You also said your skin doesn't bother you.

My last bit of advice to you at this point is to keep out of the sun and protect yourself if you have to be exposed. Get your urine tested and repeat the CBC every six months or however often your doctor recommends The low white blood cell count needs keeping a close eye on. Make sure you have the further blood tests for lupus in view of that rather high ANA.

This is getting old and we really need to move on here

Good Luck

Just to add that you are not correct in assuming that if the rash is not lupus related you must have UCTD. UCTD isn't that much different from lupus- it's just a variation and if there's a rash associated with it it is of the same type as lupus.

The reason I don't take meds for my muscle pain is because it doesn't last that long. I don't feel the need to take meds if your pain goes away after about 10 minutes. Because if it goes away, then it's better to go on away on it's own than to take meds.

I keep having new problems. It's a scary thing. But I'm going to go to dermatologist but I have to wait till he sees me so in the meantime I still would like to ask questions. It certainly doesn't hurt and it makes us more knowledgeable.

Hi Elizabeth

I'm not any medication for the rashes. I don't know anything about them. I don't as of yet have lupus so I didn't know anything about meds. This is why I like to ask questions on the board. Because of something like that what you mentioned. If people don't help us with answers, we don't know because we don't know anything from the doctors.

I have CFS and I always love to help people with answers when they need help. I've had it for 10 years and if people didn't ask, then they don't know and won't get the help they need.
