Is TMJ related to lupus?

Hi,
I was just wondering if TMJ could be related to having lupus, since it is a connective tissue.

I have been having problems with my left jaw. I was in an auto accident a good while back. I was hit broadside(driver's door). I had TMJ problems from the accident and went through **** getting it under control.
I am curious if my tmj has become an arthritis thing now from past trauma to the face, neck and back. Or if the past accident is just haunting me,and created arthiritis with time. Having lupus is no help just makes things more complicated. I feel i shouldn't blame everything on lupus but it is confusing as a disease.

Anyone familiar with this stuff?

Hi Florie,

I was diagnosed years back with TMJ Disease (Temporomandibular joint disorder) and i have to wear a mouth sheild at night which is splintered because of having seizures...it's mainly to do with the bones at the side of your ears they really make a hard cracking sound when chewing and your jaw can also lock on you..you should be treated under ENT and yes Lupus can cause this being an autoimmune disease or just happen out the blue but what makes it worse is if you have teeth missing or your jaw line does'nt rest together properly, then that as to be corrected for a start.

It causes swelling of the face, also you face to ache in general besides head and neck...plus with a combination of Lupus it feels such alot worse.
