Itchy joints

490 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  keebler
This winter, my hands have been bothering me a lot, and along with the aching and joint pain, sometimes they feel itchy. The itching is not on the skin but feels like it's down inside the knuckle joints. It's weird and kind of maddening, and scratching doesn't relieve it at all since it's inside.

Just wondering if anyone else experiences this and if it's a normal effect of inflamed joints. I see the rheum. doc next week and wonder if I should mention this. Sometimes I feel silly asking about minor symptoms that are really just annoyances...but I am curious to know what it is.

Hi again,

Yes, I get exactly that feeling when my joints are inflamed. I have never actually mentioned the feeling to anyone, thought they'd say I was mad or just give me that usual perplexed stare and then say it's all down to the disease which I kind of know anyway.

Also, so far, every time I see the rheumy I have had such a long long list of things still pretty bad that I really felt I couldn't add to it so just said "I have a lot of inflammation going on".

It's funny because it does actually make me scratch (even though, like you said, it is pointless) and often when we're out somewhere and it starts I know my joints are going to get worse and I make sure I take an anti-inflammatory that night.
