I was diagnosed with lupus sle along with fibromyalgia and sjogren's in 1995. I was an elementary school principal and all of a sudden not only could I not take care of my job, I also couldn't take care of me! It was very scary as I had been disgustingly healthy for the first fifty years of my life. Then, during a surgical procedure that lasted over twelve hours and when I almost died, the trauma to my body triggered the lupus and I never recovered. I went from prettty consistently healthy to chronically ill, pain, fatigue, you know what I am talking about!

It took me months of therapy and several years to come to grips with what had happened to my body and my life. Everything changed and the older we get, the harder it is to accept change, any change, and certainly change to a body that doesn't do what I want it to anymore.

I have been in groups and have created and managed two of my own and now I find myself just too tired and too stressed to continue with the rigors of management responsibilities so I am here hoping to find helpful information and encouragement and support from others who know what I am going through.

When I have the time, I want a place I can come and read and hopefully feel better and feel like posting to help make others feel better too!

Hi Becky and welcome to a great place.

I am sorry about what brings you here but sure glad you found us.

Have you read "The Lupus Book" by Dr. Daniel Wallace? If not I would suggest you buy it as it is written in layman terms and a good book for reference purposes too.

I had major surgery in July 2007 that lasted 6 hours and my health got worse after that as well. I found if of particular interest to hear you mention the same thing happened to you. A 12 hour surgery??????? My gosh and I thought I was under Anesthesia for a long time.......I will never complain again.

Anyway, I do hope you come here, read, learn, vent, rant and whine all you want. The people here are super supportive and always there when you reach out and need help or a ear to bend.

I sure hope to get to know you better. Keep your chin up!!!:wink2::wink2::wink2:
