Hi All -

Just did my labs today but I thought I would put this out to the forum for your insight and experience. I looked for a similar thread but alas..

for the past two weeks my urine has gone from clear to a watered down color of tea. my bp has increased to 145/80 (exceptionally high - usually around 110/70). i have trouble sleeping at night and some headaches. the last two symptoms have come and gone since dx, but are raging right now. I called my doc on Tues (mon. was a holiday here in the states) and will hopefully hear about my labs by Friday.

Ive had minimal issues with my kidneys before.. nothing major or invasive. So, does nephritis come on all the sudden? could i just have noticed something thats been happening for months? (yeah, ive skipped 2 labs).
How did your experience with kidney issues start?

xo,

Chal

Hi Chal,

The quickest and easiest way to tell if something is going on is to run a urinalysis, did they do this when they took bloods?

I've not had any major kidney problems, but from what I have heard over the years from others is that they *seem* to come on pretty fast. I hope you have heard some good news and things are OK. Let us know?

Chal,
I have problems off and on with my kidney's (uti's, infections, and changes in urine for no real reason) and all of it seems to be in a day. You should wait for the tests to come back and then if there is a problem start treatment and keep in the back of your mind when things change in the kidney area get to the doctor to see if it is starting again. You might talk to the doctor and see if you can just make a call to have urine tested when there is a problem between visits. I have that set up with my doctor now as have learned what it all feels like. I get to bypass the office charges and the visit all together. They also will just call the medicine to my pharmacy so I can start on the medicine as soon as possible to get relief. I hope some of this helps. I hope you also feel better soon.

How did your labs come out?
I had minor troubles for quite awhile. Some blood and protien in my urine, but nothing the Doc. was concerned about. Things went downhill pretty quicky once it started, but my troubles were much worse than what your describing. BP 140/80?...thats nothing. Heck it's now normal for me! My BP actually got to 220/160 at one point when nephritis was really kicking my butt...and that was while eating right and taking quite a few meds. My urine looked like dark beer...what there was of it as very little was comming out. Are you retaining water (feet swelling)? I became a water balloon, huge, gained over 40lbs...all water.
Anyway, hope your labs came back OK. Have you had a 24hr urine? I get them fairly often. They show what your putting out in a day, how your kidneys are functioning. It is a good idea to keep a close eye on the kidneys, especially if you've shown signs of trouble. Lupus seem to like going after them. I've had a couple bad bouts of Nephritis now. First was over 13 years ago (it's how I was diagnosed), second about 3 years ago. Chemo w/Cytoxan worked wonders both times.

Best Wishes,
Eric
