I have experienced what you're describing many times, both knees at the same time though. I had to force both of them back into place, one at a time, which was very painful while I was doing it but I had immediate relief once it was done. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS unless you know your body very well and have learned you can trust your own judgement about your body. I learned after a few incidents that I could no longer sit in the positions that led to my knees locking up. Because it happens while you're sitting at your desk at work, you'll have to be very creative to find possible solutions. Some ideas: elevate your feet on something like a stool or a stack of books, get a special chair, stand up to stretch and/or march in place every few minutes, wrap your knees with something to stabilize them and help them stay warm. If these solutions don't work or you don't feel you can even risk trying them, ask your physician for a referral to a physical therapist or related specialist.

Best wishes -
