I do think I like the man :)

Dear Brenda:

Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 1192, the Lupus Research, Education, Awareness, Communication, and Healthcare Amendments of 2007. I appreciate hearing from you on this issue.

As you know, H.R. 1192 was introduced as legislation that would enhance public health professional awareness and understanding of lupus and to strengthen the Nation's research efforts to identify the causes and cure of lupus.

Please be assured that I am supportive of defeating lupus by raising the public's awareness and continuing to fund the research necessary to fight this disease. As a pharmacy owner and someone who considers health care to be one of the most important issues facing the future of this country, I am deeply concerned about the overall health of my constituents and the state of Arkansas.

As your U.S. Congressman, I will continue to work to address the health issues that many Americans face today, because I believe that it is important for families all over the country to receive the adequate support and protection needed to live healthy and successful lives.

Thank you again for contacting me about this important legislation. I will continue to monitor this bill and keep your thoughts in mind should I be called to vote on it in the U.S. House of Representatives. If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me in the Washington, D.C. office or the district office nearest you.

I look forward to your continued input.

Hi Brenda,

My Congressman also sent a reply. Now we just have to see how they actually vote.

Take care,
Lazylegs
I also heard from my Congressman, this is what he said.

Dear Lyn:
Thank you for contacting me regarding your support for the Lupus Research, Education, Awareness, Communication, and Healthcare (REACH) Amendments, H.R. 1192. I appreciate hearing from Iowans on this important lssue.
Representative Kendrick Meek (D-FL) introduced H.R. 1192 on February 27, 2007. This legislation was subsequently referred to the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee.on Health, where it awaits further action.

The bill expands research on lupus, including basic research to discover the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of the disease, and research to validate lupus biomarkers. It requires the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to work with a consortium of academic health institutions to undertake an epidemiological study to determine the prevalence and incidence of lupus in the United States.

It also requires the Department of Health and Human Services to contract with the Institute of Medicine to evaluate Federal and State activities related to lupus, identify gaps in Federal research and recornmend ways to improve the quality of life for people with lupus. The bill authorizes a national lupus public awareness and health professional education campaign, with an emphasis on reaching populations at highest risk for the disease.

I have always been a supporter of government-funded research on devastating diseases. Please be assured that I will keep your thoughts in mind should H.R. 1192 be considered by the full House.
I sure hope this reaches the full House.:fingers:

Take care everyone.
Lyn
