I have both lupus and fibromyalgia and lately I have had sores in my mouth and my tongue and throat have been very sore. I've seen 2 dentists a gp and an Ent dr with no results. Has anyone else had this problem?:sad:l

Hello Jean
Welcome to the forum ! :)
I moved this post to symptoms and altered the title but now see the question has already been responded to in your original thread:

http://www.thelupussite.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70960

Anyway we'll leave this here in case it attracts more answers - some people look more at some forum sections than others

Cheers

Hi Jean,

I'm sorry to hear that you are in pain with these mouth sores. I haven't had them in a while but when i do get them i use iodized SALT. I know that sounds painful and it is but after a couple of applications the sores go away.

1 cup of very warm water and 2 tbsp of salt, gargle as long as u can until all water is gone. DO NOT SWOLLOW. Do this twice a day. Usually after the first 2 applications i just put the salt on each sore if possible as it usually doesn't hurt as much by then. If you cant do that then just gargle again til sores are gone.
My sores usually don't last more than 7 days once i start treatment.

If you try this ,, i hope it works,, let me know either way.

Good luck!

Hi,
Sorry to hear you suffer from these too! I've had them constant for 3 years, but then my lupus has never been under control either. Anyways, there are several things you can do to help. I have found that using biotene toothpaste instead of regular toothpaste helps alot, along with the biotene mouthwash. The sal****er solution works, I have also had people say to mix it with baking soda. So a small glass with 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp b.s. & water 3 times a day. There's a "magic mouthwash" that your dr. can give you if you go in & have them look at it, or theres clobetasol, a steroid get that you can apply, or kenalog in orabase which helps some people. I just started something called protopic yesterday (another Prescription). O and I've also taken valtrex for them. I think it's just a matter of trying these things to see which one works for you because everyone is so different. I hope this helps and I hope you get some relief soon!

Hi,

I suffer from these very severely, my Dr has prescribed Corlan Pellets they are a steroid, but you put them as close the ulcer as possible and let it dissolve, it takes a while but they do help alot, I also use corsydl mouthwash and during the night I use a paste (I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head i'll have a look and let you know!!) It puts an extra layer over the ulcer so you can't feel it at all its very good.

Hope any of the above will help you.

Hi Jean, I would suggest that you go to see a Dermatologist. He is a specialist in "skin". I have one and I would be lost without him. Just a suggestion.
You never know when the next time that you could use one. But just feel better.

Sorry you are hurting Jean!

I may have a little insight. My mouth soures sounded exactly the same. That is actually one reason I was diagnosed with Lupus. They are awful. It makes you not want to eat!

Luckily I worked for a dentist and gum surgeon. They made me some thing special but I have some tips that are very useful! My rheumetologist has my on plaquenil and I rarely get the sores unless I eat alot of acid or soda.

Mary's Magic Mouthwwash is what people have previous mentioned. You can actually mix it up at home or mention it to your dentist. Believe it or not if you rinse with Malaox and spit it out it coats your mouth. It is an ingriedient in the magic mouthwash I believe! Valtrex cream is for the outside of your mouth so you may create pain. Use ambesol or any other brand of numbing gel you can find where the floss is. For your throat, use chloraseptic. Obviously these are just pain relieving methods but they have been useful to me and many cancer patients I know who get blister type sores similar to mine.

I hope this can be useful to you or someone in some kind of way!!!
