I have a positive ana, my antinuclear ab is 1:640, my pattern is centromere, my symptoms are sun poison, severe joint pain, raynauds. I am so confused, I have been told every excuse for these things, exept lupus. I think I have lupus, what do you think?

Hello Connie and :welcome:,

You mention some symptoms which could be lupus. Your positive ana result does point to an auto-immune disorder of some kind but it needs further investigation. It is the first screening test done for many auto-immmune diseases and it can be high for many reasons.

If you look in the "not yet diagnosed" section of the boards you will find diagnostic criteria and alternative criteria which may help you to see if your symptoms fit. There are also symptoms that we might not necessarily associate with lupus and which are important.

You need to go and see a rheumatologist (preferably one who specialises in lupus and other auto-immune disorders). There is a "find a doctor" section here on the forum which can be useful if you don't know where to go. These diseases are complex and GPs generally don't know enough about them and won't order the specific bloods necessary for diagnosis. For most of us, once diagnosed, the rheumy becomes the primary carer with the GP being there for the in-between and not purely lupus things.

feel free to ask any questions you may have, we're here to help, bye for now,
Katharine

Certainly lupus is something to be considered with your symptoms and initial blood test results. I hope you can get into a good rheumatologist, who will take a thorough and relevant medical history from you, as well as ask about family history, and run more blood work on you and probably do a urinalysis as well. The sooner you get a diagnosis the better, as you can get on some helpful medications then.

Take care... & welcome to the site!
