Hi Guys:)

Just to say that my thread a couple of weeks ago concerning an insect bite. Maybe it wasn't a bite?????????:hehe:

Yes it's all started again on my leg, swelling redness spreading, painful and weeping slightly. It's now around the side of my knee and around the ankle. All on the same leg as last time.

After a dreadful night last night this morning I went to A & E as the GPs response last time was less than helpful. They said that I have an infection in my leg but for what reason or why they don't know.:worried:

Anyhow I now have to take Flucloxacillin antibiotics ( 500mg ) 4 times a day for a week and fingers crossed it will have gone.

Why oh why do these things keep cropping up. At least I'm sure GP can't say that this is all in my head:lol:

Oh Dear

That does sound very painful. I wonder if it might be Cellulitis? People with systemic illnesses are more prone to this.

At least the anti-biotics seem to be the right treatment for now. However if the leg doesnt respond they should try steroids if the origin is thought to be an autoimmune disorder. See this link:

I was just looking up your previous posts and noticed you have a Rheumy appointment this week. Good timing I think! Definitely let him have a look at it and see what he thinks.

I also noticed you had asked on your last post about what CRP means - it stands for C Reactive Protein and is a way of measuring inflammation in the body. The higher the level, the more the inflammation. Yours seems to be within normal range. However it is known that in Lupus a low CRP is possible and doesnt mean there is NO inflammation going on.

I hope the anti-biotics work for you. Please let us know how you are doing and best of luck with your appointment

Take care

I am sorry you are having this problem and it sounds just aweful. I am glad that you went to the doctors though to get checked out. My first thought was poison ivy but they concluded an infection. I hope that the meds start to work right away.

Sometimes it does seem that it never ends -

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers for a fast recovery !

I'm really sorry Mrs M :there: What rotten luck. Some insects like horseflies are extremely filthy because they hang around on dung. Take care please and if it isn't much better soon or of course gets worse with increased redness and a red vein and throbbing don't hesitate to get back to A&E. Cellulitis is an urgency and often treated with IV antibiotics.

Consider taking some proper yoghourt to counteract side effects of the antibiotic or something similar like yogcult

Or I suppose it could be a staph infection crept in through the bite.

Many hugs and sincere hopes that it clears up soon.

Hi Guys and Thankyou:)

Still feeling rotten but hope the antibiotics will kick in soon. Doctor at A & E said it will take a few days for the antibiotics to work and the infection may get worse before getting better.:(

Felt awful most of yesterday and last night but at least I'm up and about today.

Thankyou Joan for the links they were really interesting.:)
You're such a great bunch of caring friends. Thanks!!!!!

next time you'll just have to listen to dr. raglet (hahaha) - I thought it looked like an infection. Sometimes it can be both, an insect bite that got infected, though this time around sounds like you didn't even get the bite.

hope the antibiotics do the trick

Hi

I am sorry that you are suffering again so soon after the last episode. I have to say that your pictures (from last time) look incredibly like the bites I used to suffer from years ago, from those nasty horse flies. They always got infected as like it has been said before those flies like icky stuff!

Anyway I really hope that it settles down soon!

Take care

Regards

Hello:)

Thanks Karol, Star and Raglet for your support and concern.

Yes Dr. Raglet I will most certainly listen to you next time. You should be my GP ( ah! ah! ).

It's feeling slightly better today although last night it was weeping really bad but it seems to have eased. Not sure if this is the norm?

Hi Mrs M,

I just wanted to say to you that the EXACT same thing happened to me last year! I thought I had an insect bite (it looked pretty much teh same as yours), my GP told me it was insect bite (he even implied that it might be a flea bite from my cat!!!) I was prescribed antibiotics (the same as yours) but all they did was go right through me! I eventually got prescribed some non pencillin based ones which seemed to clear it up.

However a couple of weeks later it reappeared, same leg, just in a slightly different place. This time I went to the private doctor at my work and he gave me some cream which did cure it and I've been fine ever since.

I hope you get things cleared up, you have my complete sympathy!
