Hello Lin, You can buy an extra seat cushion to raise you up on the chairs at home. Makes getting up easier. If you google the Ambrose Wilson catalogue , they have them reasonably priced. With the car you can get something called a transfer sheet, like a nylon bin bag. You sit on it and when you want to get out the two layers of sheet slide on each other to help you move. Some people actually use a black bin bag but I can't swear to how good that is.

Sorry you feel bad.

Nerve pain???

Hi lin, just an idea could it be nerve pain? I also have back problems that existed before my SLE began. I was taking Pamalor for pain. It is a antidepressant that, when taken in lower dosages than required for depression, can block pain receptors in the brain.

There are some seizure meds i have taken for this as well. I do not have seizures mind you. They tried me on neurontin for this but i always felt too sedated. I take 20 to 40 mg of pamalor at bed time. I did feel tired in the morning in the beginning but that went away after a while.

So when i started having worse back pain and a restless leg type of thing during my periods the doctors suggested an extra dose of two during that time of the month. It worked.

Elavil is also used for this, the pamalor is the second generation of it and i dont seem to have that hungover feeling as much as when i tried the Elavil.

See what the doctor thinks. Good luck Lisa

Hi Lin,

Have you had your Calcium, magnesium and B-12 levels checked lately? When I was low in Calcium my legs cramped constantly.

My cramping was always worse at night too. I found stretching my foot back toward my body helped lessen the cramp. Applying heat will also relax the muscle. A light massage might help also.

Have you considered exercising in bed? An easy way to exercise in bed is with an exercise band that looks like a jump rope. I am slowly building up strength in both my arms and legs doing a few simple movements with it. To keep the ankles mobile I do easy foot circles. Keep the supporting muscles strong around the knees is important. One that works for me is to hang the legs off the bed, lift your lower leg and hold for 30 seconds then lower leg. Another one is to sit with your legs straight out in front of you, tighten the knee and hold for 30 seconds then release. To help keep some tone in the core area lightly draw your navel back towards your back. These exercises will help keep some muscle tone without tiring you too much.

I hope things turn around for you soon.

Take care,
Lazylegs
