following my thread yesterday, I've just been to drs and asked for a printout of my lab results

it says
antismooth muscle autoantibod - negative
ena -negative (dr told me this was positive?)
(na screen includes R060,r052,La, SM, RNP,Scl170,Jo-1, CENP-B)
dsDNA binding autoantibody level -negative
serum anti-nuclear antibody level 1 in 640
Serum ANA pattern -Positive speckled

anti mitochondrial antibody pattern -negative

does this mean anything now to anyone

thanks xx

Hello Tracy,

Basically your tests are saying that you have a positive ANA of 1:640 which is a sort of screening test for auto-immune diseases.

Some people can have a positive ANA and be perfectly healthy but 1:640 is significant enough to be taken seriously if you have other criteria for lupus.

Here's a link to the ACR classification criteria if you haven't already seen it

I can't remember, do you already have a referral to see a rheumy? For me that would be the logical next step as usually only rheumies have the experience necessary to diagnose and treat auto-immune diseases. If you want a recommendation for a good rheumy in your area, you can post here in the "find a lupus doctor" section. Not all rheumies are specialised in AI diseases and it is best, if you can, to see one that is.

The rheumy I have been referred to is a specialist in connective tissue disorder so don't know if that is any good, will ask for a recomendation for one in Merseyside anyway just so I know in case she is no good.

hello

well Im glad I have asked for copys of my bloods to start with Its just like learning a new language lol

Also ask for letters on you from the Hospital and GPs they wont make sense to start with but later they will.

Keep your own records of treatments and tests as Drs have to look up your notes and its good for your own state of mind

take care

Hi, have you got a list of your symptoms together with any relevant photos of rashes etc ready to show the rheumy? Also a list of questions that you may want to ask is useful to have ready. Hope the appt goes well, 2 wks will fly by.
