Hi everyone,

I am a 17 year old girl who experiences a range of symptoms linking to lupus. I have severe joint pain, signs of Raynards, mouth ulcers, hair loss, fatigue and more. Also, my mum has lupus and a range of different arthritis. I've been to the doctors and I've been sent for bloods but results won't be back for 4 weeks. I am extremely nervous, anxious and scared about what will happen. Do you think I have lupus? Or just arthritis? Or nothing at all? I need my mind to be at ease or atleast aware of what to expect. Any answer will help!

Hi Chloj and welcome.

Did they check out your thyroid? That can cause hair loss.
Im sorry I cant tell you if you have lupus or not. It is good they are checking everything out for you.
When I was waiting lab results it was hard on me. Try reading a book or anything that can get your mind at ease.
I know that is very hard to do. I wish I could help you more.
With all the meds out there lupus is something you can live with. On the right mix of meds the person will feel better once it is under control.
My heart goes out to you and your Mum.
Take care and let us know how we can help you.

Thanks so much. They haven't yet checked my thyroid but I believe if bloods come clear they will do so. I won't give up, there is something most definitely wrong with my body and I need to come to the end of it. My mum suffered for 10 years before they had diagnosed her with lupus. It is hard but I'll try my best to stay strong for myself and my mum. I just hope I find an answer whether it is lupus or not.

Thanks again:)

Hi Chloe.... I am glad you are starting to get investigated...autoimmune or not, it needs treating and sorting out for you.

It is a good idea to do the diary thing though too as not all people with autoimmune disease have positive bloodwork. Do a daily diary of symptoms and pain grade them 0-10; note how these symptoms affect your daily life ie can't lift heavy bags/ reach above my head/socialise/ do exercise/ feel too tired....etc etc.....also note the weather each day and what you have been doing. Also take photos of anything visible like swellings, hair loss, rashes, bruises, etc etc....... I hope you get some answers soon...Claire

That's a brilliant idea, i will start that right now. Hopefully that will give the doctors a clear insight of how I'm feeling. Yes exactly something isn't right whether it is lupus or not. So I'm hoping for some answers.

Thanks so much,
Chloe
