Hey everyone,

I live in the panhandle of Florida and have tried a couple Rheumatologists in this area, but they're all in network together, and none specialize in Lupus....not to mention, they're not very helpful. I've been seeing doctors in Pensacola (these doctors also practice in Destin, FL), both areas are about an hour away from where I live. I would be willing to go to Alabama, as some parts of it aren't very far away...my only problem is having to go back fairly often. Right now I see my Rheumy every 4 to 6 weeks and have to take off work to make it to my appointments, so the farther away the doctor is, the harder it will be to see him/her as frequently. HOWEVER, if they could get my Lupus under control, it would be well worth it and I might not have to go as often. Any recommendations will be GREATLY appreciated!! :wink2:

I'm not from the usa but I was reading your other posts and am appalled at the lack of treatment options you have and the poor quality of life you must have as a result. Are you able to get to Gainsborough or is that too far?

Quite often the best rheumatologists for our complicated disease are found in the university hospitals. The Uni of Florida seems to have at least 3 top ones that state SLE as a special interest. They are the last 3 mentioned in the above article.

If this is way too far for you to go just let us know and we can try and find something else closer. I myself travel a bit over 2 hrs to see my doctor but as you mentioned if your lupus gets under better control you shouldn't have to go as often as you currently are anyway. That's certainly been true for me. I've had very good care at my state's university hospital with docs who treat this a lot and you also have the input of other specialists should they be needed. They tend to put their heads together which is a real plus for the patient.

I read your request and I am curious , did you find a lupus doctor closer than the Destin area? My husband tested positive for drug induced lupus , we have been to several doctors in the panama city area but no one really knows what to do for him . I look forward to hearing from you.

I'm not sure that the original poster will answer your question as she last visited a day after this thread was started.

If you need a doctor recommendation you could maybe start your own thread explaining where you are and you might get more replies
