Hi guys, weirder and more wonderful stuff. So I get the Plaquinel and am loving it. I go to the optometrist for the obligatory screen even though I had one in Nov. He sees some abnormality. last time I saw him he sent me to the eye hospital who told me I have slanted pupuls , hmmm now I am not so sure that this guy knew what he was doing at all ( the eye specialist at the hsopital) I think the optometrist is very good.

I recieved a lovely letter from my GP who told me that I have to go in to be screened for diabetes. I need a blood glucose fasting test and that he has written to the London Lupus unit for advice on the eye abnormality. I hope they don't even attempt to take my Plaq away , I love the stuff.

I did have a notion that there was metabolic involvment as I didn't even gain weight when pregnant. I always struggled to stay above 100lbs and often drastically lost weight with no reason though i eat like a man. When I was struck down I gained 37lbs I told the Lupus specialist I feel particularly unwell when I eat high glycemic index foods and he said just don't eat them lol.

anyone know anyhting about the metabolism and Lupus or possible Lupus and diabetes syndromes?

xxP

Pollianna,
I hope the doctor finds what is going on with you and that it is an easy fix for you. You have had your share of problems so it is time for you to have some good news soon. I hope that you are well and doing well.

Pollianna,
IF ( quite a bif IF) the Plaquenil is not advisable for you, you would always be able to suggest Mepacrine which is even lower in eye toxicity. So don't worry, there may well be other options. I had the situation here with eye problems in the family where the Optometrist was brilliant, the local Opthalmologist was consistently useless with my family and many others.

There are some good facilities in your part of the country though, so you could always look a little further away. My Husband went to East Grinstead. Believe it is called the Royal Victoria. They solved him in one appointment!

Enough is enough already...............you have had your share of it.

I hope you can stay on Plaquenil but if not maybe another drug?

Thanks guys , awww

My Doc doesn't think the drug is causing the eye issues, I'm just worried they will try to yank me off it in the spirit of "First do no harm" The same spirit that kept me from getting any treatment for ten or so yrs  If they try to I will fight them all the way and buy it off the internet if I have to.

The Optometrist clearly thinks I have diabetes. I dunno .I wish my Doc knew a little more about medicine

Pollianna,

You have more than your share of problems.

It would be a good idea to get it checked out. Hopefully you wont have diabetes. I read that he doesn't feel it is your plaq so that is a good sign.

I know what you mean about something going on with your eyes. Last time I was to my eye doc, he said I had one of the signs of glaucoma. The pressure was ok.

Love,
Lyn

PS Your title of your post has a song going threw my head now.:hehe: It is "The Song that never ends it goes on and on my friend.....
