Hi all -

I figured that I would introduce myself properly here. I was diagnosed with SLE when I was 20 (I'm 27 now). I live in the west coast of Ireland. I was hospitalised twice with haemolytic anaemia and pericarditis, but I have been pretty much fine for the past 5 years or so. Recently though I've had a few problems, chest pains, coughing, weakness, aches, rash etc. My bloods have been a bit off recently too - my GP reckons that it is something viral and is monitoring the bloods.

Anyway I guess when I started to feel a bit poorly I came back onto this site and decided to properly introduce myself. I have found this site to be a great resource over the years.

Nice to meet you all!

Hello there Nellie and welcome :)

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling poorly again. Hopefully it won't last too long...

I come from Ireland too. I lived in Donegal for a while near Killybegs. Mayo is a beautiful county. Hopefully I'll be able to show it to hubby soon, so far we haven't been able to take the time for a longer trip but I have uncles that live over that way so need to get around to it at some stage.

bye for now,
Katharine

Hi Nellie

It was lovely to meet you in chat last night. There are only a handful of us 'Oirish' on the site so I consider us a rare and wonderful breed! :hehe:

Im so glad to hear you have benefited from the site over the years even if you haven't formally registered as a member until now:). I think thats the hidden wonder of this place - the untold amount of members who have benefited and yet dont come up as 'registered hits'. However your registration, along with many others, helps to secure the future of the site because at the end of the day it has to pay its way. Its financial management and future is all down to one person - Joanne, our Administrator and Founder - who maintains the site through whatever advertising revenue can be gleaned. Member numbers and new registrations do help:) By registering you help to secure the advertisement revenue which keeps the site secure:)

Enough of the sales talk already!

I was sorry to hear that you are feeling poorly at the moment and I hope that whatever is going on can be brought under control quickly for you. Thats one of the big problems with Lupus. Many things can set off an immune complex in our systems and it can take a while to dampen things down again.

Its great to hear you have had a few good years and hopefully that pattern will continue for you once you have this flare-up under control.

Do let us know the outcome of your results as the sharing of experiences helps us all in the long run. The very best of luck with those test results!

Catch you soon
Luv n stuff

Hi Helen

Hi Helen

I'm based in the west of Ireland as well and my rheumatologist is Carmel Silke. She works in the Galway Clinic and I find her approachable and pro-active. I've only recently been referred onto her and I find that she is interested in putting a team of specialists together to manage my lupus. This was not the approach that my previous rheumatologist took, so I'm actually really enjoying being listened to now.

Hope this helps

Hi Nellie and nice to meet you. I do hope you can get this under control and so glad you have a pro active doctor who is working with you, not against you.

When I come out of the flare I am in I will be in chat room typing away. Right now I can not do all of the typing so I am steering clear of the chat room temptation.:lol::lol:

Hope to get to know you better and welcome to the board.
