Curious about some small marks on my right hand.

They look like ever so slightly raised light brown 'plaques'. They are not flat like freckles ( I have quite a few of those) and they range from about 2mm across to 3mm across.

You can only really see them clearly in certain light because of the freckles on the backs of my hands which camouflages them. You can feel them if you run your finger over them. I had 2 or 3, but now i see there are another 3 or 4 now growing further afield from the original cluster.

They are slightly itchy, but otherwise not troublesome.

Could they be some sort of age related thing, or should i get them looked at?

Many thanks for any advice

Hi Alwin,

I have one or two of those too but they have never increased in number. I think they are some kind of mole actually and if they change at all, like appearing, itching, changing colour... they should really be shown to a dermy, especially as they can (not wishing to frighten you) be cancerous and then early treatment is hyper important.

Of course it may be something less sinister :)

I'm thinking some type of wart could be a possibility too, especially as you mention clusters of them. I'd show them to your GP at next appt and see what they say. Hopefully nothing serious!

I have those too, my nurse practioner said mine where a mix of a type of wart and something called neavi (sounds like NeeVIE) The warts tend to have some small dots on them while the other just appear as raised areas sometimes brownish and sometimes the same as your skin color. It will take some concentrating for someone to figure out which is which on me and remove the warts. My hands are slightly itchy as well. Check it out and see what they may be. Karly

Hi Alwin, I always tell everyone that they should have three dr.'s
at all time's. A GP, a Rheumy, and a Dermy, you really just can't make it without them. Having a someone who is a specialist in just
skin, with our diagnosis, can make a lot of difference in out peace of mind. I would go and have it checked out, then you have no worries.. Let us know.
