Thursday I tried to tell my boss that I can not work all the hours that she needs me to for her surgery. She told me that everyone but me was working their 40 hours and that since she will be unable to cover my hours because of her surgery. I was told that I would have to do the 40 hours plus the extra work while she was gone and when she comes back she would let me have a 3 day weekend. The note the rhuemy sent said that I would need to lessen my hours and rest more often then normal employees. I should be limited to hours of work and then time to rest and maybe I could work a few more hours than. My boss said because it said should be and would need to be lessen hours more than normal employees. She had this read by HR and they said this did not state what my limits were nor how many less hours I would have to work. I just don't know what I will do now. I guess I am set to do the hours and if I do more damage, get sicker, or fall over they will have to prop me up at the desk and act like I am still ok. Last week she put me doing 37 hours and I thought I was going to die. Ok I guess it is enough ranting and whining about my problems and work, I will have to make it some way. I guess for the next 4-6 weeks I will be limited to work and sleep. I can't ask my daughter to help me now knowing that she too is having her problems with her health. I did talk to my gp and she said he has a speciality and she don't but that she can't believe that he is not taking in account the problems I have been having and wrote a no work sheet. She said she would of. Well if I manage to make it past all of the work I will see you guys as often as I can and will miss chatting with all of you. Take care and be healthy.

Tammy she's got you right where she wants you so my advice is pocket it and plan ahead. Do some shopping online if poss, send the laundry out, anything that will lessen your burden.......try not to dwell on the unfairness of it because that will only stress you tho it is terribly unfair.

I am so sorry to hear of the nasty sorts with which you have ot deal at work. As I have said before, anyone who has even "mild" Lupus and can work has my sympathies. The last few years of my fulltime labours were simply work and sleep. Eventually there was little of either. One day at a time!
All the best.

I'm sorry you're going through such a rough time at the moment with your job.... It sounds like a very stressful situation indeed... :(

I think you need to take a step back from all this and try to see the whole picture here. Yes, it's upsetting that your rheumy didn't write a more detailed report, yes it's upsetting that your GP is refusing to write a letter for your job now, yes it's very upsetting that your boss isn't understanding about what you're going through BUT what's more important now, today, for the time being, is to adress the issue of your work hours.

Since your rheumatologist seemed willing to write a letter for your job, it might be a good idea to give him or his office a call bright and early tomorrow morning and ask for a more precise letter. Explain what is going on with your work, what format they need the letter in and also explain that you have to have the new, more precise letter ASAP.

Having to work 40+ hours a week sounds torturous to me and I honestly worry about your health if you are forced to go through with this... Please remember that no one else will fight our battles for us, we unfortunately have to fight them ourselves and sometimes, however difficult it may seem, we have to take the reigns and be a bit more forceful and "unyielding" than usual. I think this is one of those times for you Tammy. And I do think it's very important for your health that this be resolved, per your rheumy's suggestions...!

I hope you get the new version of the letter very, very fast so that this situation can be solved... :) :fingers:

Sending loads and loads of strengthening hugs your way :grouphug2::grhug:

Hi Tammy

I'm sorry to hear this is not improving. To be honest, I really don't know how you do it. I used to work four days a week plus prep on the fifth day. I drove a lot (around 1000km a week). My health started getting worse and I had exhaustion problems leading to exceedingly low blood pressure. I wrote my car off due to that and suddenly realised that no matter how much I needed the money, I didn't want to kill myself for work. So, I reduced to 3 days plus a prep day. Gradually my disease activity worsened and I just couldn't go on. My docs tried to get me to stop working, I kept telling them I can't! In the end if I hadn't stopped I'd have ended up in hospital, so finally, saying I can't was daft because money doesn't come in in hospital either and kids don't get looked after that way either.

I don't know what your solutions are but you do need to take that step back.
The hours you described the other day in a post are actually 100% illegal here. Normal people, with no lupus are never expected to work them!

I'm sorry I can't help more and I really don't have a solution as I know you need to work but it is time you took a long hard look at it and tried to find some solution before you literaly drive yourself into the ground.

love and hugs

I did want to let some of my very concerned friends on here know: My rhuemy does have a setup for emailing and getting what you need. I went out of chat here last night and sent an email for the note to be redone and what had to be in it. I also sent him a copy of my schedule with all the changed that have been done all month long and what hours I have been doing. I got my reply today just minutes ago. He is not happy with the schedule I have been keeping and said he had no idea. He went on the net and did a search for my home office and sent an email and put a call into them that I am not to work more than the 24 hours a week no more 32 hour days until further notice and that I am to work 8 hours and have 24 off. If I am working a 8 hour shift time needs to be made for me to have a 30 minute lunch time to rest somewhere.

Tammy!

Well done you! What a brilliant Rheumy. Im so glad you contacted him. Im sorry if this will cause inconvenience or difficulty for you in work but they will just have to hire in a temp to cover those additional hours.

Once again well done on your initiative. Im so pleased you wont be facing such a horrendous work schedule :worried:

Take good care

Hi Tammy,

Your upcoming schedule was over the top. There was no way your body would have made it through the entire time your boss was gone. I am happy to hear your doctor came through for you :yahoo:.

Take care,

Tammy,

I feel so much better now. You were on my mind all day today thinking about what you were up against. I felt very bad for you so I am glad you emailed him and that he acknowledged you and your health issues.

This is AWESOME news and I will sleep better tonight.

So glad you took the steps to get this issue resolved.

YOU GO GIRL!!!!!:wink2:
