I came across this article and thought I would post to let everyone else know this information about a very commonly given diagnosis to all women, but especially to us - osteopenia.

I never knew that the diagnosis is reached based on comparing bone density to that of a 30 year old woman (who has almost maximum bone density at that age if I recall correctly). Definitely some food for thought!

More food for thought! Thank you for posting the article. I was given a diagnosis of osteopenia several years ago, but was only advised to start taking calcium.

I now go in for yearly DEXA scans as part of my routine health care, but I wonder if this is really necessary at this time. With my chronic prednisone use and as a smoker, I don't think I'm getting out of it, but worth a try, don't you think?
