Hi everyone hope you're all having a great weekend!:)

Just wanted to ask if anyones had problems with insect bites. On Thursday evening I got bit at the top of my left leg and my goodness it's made an awful mess.

It's continuing to get worse and wondered what I could do to ease it. It's suprisingly not itching but is really sore and I can feel my skin getting tighter with the inflammation. Also the heat which it's radiating is sooooo hot.

Can't take piriton or such like so hopefully you may have ideas for me to ease it slightly.

Also is this regular with CTDs? Bugs seem to love having a nibble and they have gone nasty before but not this bad! Should I mention it to Rheumy?

Many Thanks
Mrs M x

I've tried attaching some photos so hopefully I've done it correctly!:hehe:

It was good of you to take photos.
I have never reacted to a bug bite like that.
I think it is worth mentioning to the doctor.
I hope this heals quickly..............looks itchy!

Hi Mrs M,

Try some calamine lotion or calamine aquaeous cream, or even a cold damp flannel!

I've suffered with these type of reaction to bites for years - very sore!

Just keep an eye on it and make sure it does not spread exessively - if it does, please go to A&E for some specialist treatment.

Lesley

ps - I have had swellings from bites that have covered area ankle to knee!

Hi Mrs M

I get exactly the same type of reaction from insect bites. Sometimes the swelling and the redness is even much bigger than yours (especially if its a Mosquito bite ).

Fortunately I can take anti histamines but lots of times I have ended up with an infection and have had to take anti biotics. The centre of the bite becomes yellow, oozing and infected and extremely sore to the touch. The area feels rock hard and very hot.

I think it might be an idea to go to your GP if this doesnt start settling soon. In the meantime as Lesley says Calamine Lotion can help calm the burning feeling. Be careful not to hit your leg off anything. If its anything like mine you will go through the roof with the pain:eek:

Hugs and best of luck

One more suggestion...

Nappy creams are useful to - especially Sudacreme (this even suggests to use for bites and sunburn along as well as the nappy rash!)

Hi Mrs M

:eek:hno::oops: That looks really sore, if i was you i would be calling the doctors this morning, that bite is infected and the only thing that usually clears infections is antibiotics or antibiotic cream.

I find since i have had lupus that cuts, scratches and bites often get infected, so now i keep a tube of antiobiotic cream in the house so that if i do get any skin issues i put the cream on and i have found that more often than not it does stop the infection spreading and usually saves me from having to take antibiotics.

I would tell your rheumy when you next see him/her, it can't do any harm to let them know about any probs you have.

Good luck :luck: and i hope it clears up real soon.

Take care :bunny: Jo :bunny:

I'd definitely show that to a doctor. If it is feeling hot, then it could well be infected. If it is infected then it really needs treating as it is very large.

I have had lots of infections that feel hot to the touch and throb - with me that always means antibiotics are needed.

My ex ended up in hospital on iv antibiotics after a mosquito bite that looker rather like yours.

Sorry I don't know anything much about allergic skin reactions, but when my daughter gets bee stings and swells up, she always itches with it.

feel better soon

Hi everyone!

Thanks for advice.

Decided to go to GP today as last night was terrible  It became extremely itchy around the edge of the sore and it was so hot. Also late last night I started to feel really queasy and didn't know if it was connected.

GP merely said oh have you been to casualty of which I replied no! I asked what I should do and he said oh you'll be fine just elevate the leg and put on a clod compress:mad:
He did say at the end of the appointment that if I needed to go back and see him that I could. Well thanks a bunch GP!!!!!!!!

Such a wasted appointment and I was waiting the usual 40 mins over my allocated slot.

Oh I'm such a grumpy draws nowadays:lol:

:worried:. He didn't think it was infected? It sure looks like cellulitis:worried:. Take your temp 4 times a day and if it goes over 37.7 go back to the GP or to A&E.

I hope you have a better night tonight:blush:

Hi Mrs. M, I have no idea what kind of bugs you have over there where
you live, but with any kind of CTD, I would suggest that you have your GP
see it a.s.a.p. With the disease labels that we have, and the weekend
immune system that goes with it, deffinately don't wait around, get it
looked at. I wish you the best.

Hi Halfpint.

Mrs. M did see her GP (maybe you didnt notice her other post just a bit above yours?) and didnt get too much joy from it.

Mrs. M Im sorry that your GP was less than sympathetic. I hope he is right and that it will settle very soon. What a wasted journey for you :hugbetter: If you end up having to go somewhere else to get it treated in the next few days I would be having a strong word in his ear:(

Let us know how you go with it

Luv n stuff

hi Mrs M

Sorry about your leg it looks nasty i was thinking you could buy what i bought for my daughter, a few weeks ago she recieved a nasty bite and we did not know what it was,we went to the chemist and he reccomended an After Bite pen, it did hurt her as it is amonia but then it took the itching away and the soreness now we carry one everywhere. To me it looks like a cleg bite but i am not sure.
I hope you get better soon.

Thanks everyone!

Last night it was really irritating and slighlty painful so I took some painkillers and my Hubby put some cream on that we used for when our daughter got stung by a wasp ( I'd completely forgot that we had it :hehe:). It has worked a little and the redness as now changed to a bluey speckledy colour?

Hopefully it's calming down now. As for taking my temp it's been a little high at around 36.5 and when I'm well it's usually 35.3 so keeping my eye on it.

Just to say Halfpint I dread to think what bugs we have lurking around here. Not much of a fan when it comes to creepy crawlies:eek:

To be honest though I'm not sure what did bite me and as soon as I felt it both me and Hubby checked around to see what it was but yes it had done a runner!!!!!!!!

Have a great day:)

Hi Guys just a quick update!

The sore on my leg as definitely calmed down but as left an horrible colour on my leg:eek:

It's still the size of my photo but the colour is like a faded bruise. Should it still be hanging around because I've not had anything like this so not sure?

Thanks
Hope everyone is well!:)

Mrs M,

Its always took quite a few weeks for mine to heal completely - the bruised colour always took along time to go, but in the end did go!

Take care,

Lesley
