When I get that type of sensation it has been Shingles!

Is this one-sided in respects to left and right?

Lesley

PS - Shingles can occur without lumps/bumps/spots!!!!

I think I know what youre talking about Angie. I've had my scalp feel very sore, like the feeling you get when your hair is pulled back to tight, except I don't wear my hair pulled back. I also get a very tender area on my face that feels like I'm touching a bad burn. I suspect it to be nerve pain but I really don't know.

Hi Angie

Over the last three years I have had really bad hair loss with slow/brittle regrowth (at the moment it is stable.....touch wood). However during 'flare ups' I suffer from a painful/burning sensation in the scalp. The feeling is similar to the one you get after wearing a hairband or clip too tight. I also get tender areas around my temples, forehead and crown which are painful to prod (feels like the start of a huge spot but nothing ever appears). Don't worry, you're not going mad!

Hi Angie,

I too get problems with my scalp. I have tender areas which are extremely sore to touch and feel like the hair has been pulled back very severely for a long time. I also get what I can only describe as sores on my scalp from time to time. No idea what they look like but they are very painful.

So you are definitely not alone!

Hi Angie,
I had a really tender area on my scalp a few years ago, after being in the sun for a very short time, the next day it was severe pain that also radiated through my head, it was pinkish and swollen, I could not brush my hair or touch my scalp the derm said it was attack from the lupus ( I have discoid ) and gave me steroid creams, eventually it felt better after a few months, but a year later I lost my hair in that spot the size of a quarter, even now at time that area gets really sensitive and I fear I will lose more hair, even before this i would have that feeling like you describe, of painful or sore scalp, esp if i had a ponytail or barret in my hair. I wear a hat now every time I go out, always.

Oh, I know exactly how you feel. There are mornings that I wake up and my hair hurts sooo bad. At first I thought it was because I had went to bed with my hair pulled up, maybe it was pulled up too tight, something. I also used to have a super thick head of hair, but now even that has changed. Now I go thru periods of losing my hair in clumps. It just doesn't stop. Oh, the joys of having Lupus.

angie,
This is not strange at all. Each of us have different things that happen to us. I personally have not had this happen but that does not mean that it is not happening to you. Have you had anyone check and see if there is a reason for the pain you are feeling. As strange as it sounds sometimes it can be a change in shampoo, condition, or even laundry soap can cause the same reaction so to speak. It is just a thought. I find that some shirts with lace on the collar cause me to have lupus rash.

Hi Angie, I know just how you feel,( like if you pick someone to tell, they are going to think that you have lost your mind. I think that most of us here have gone thru it.I go thru it when I have a flare. It can be very bad. It feels like my whole head hurts; the skin of the scalp, each and every individual hair, and OMG,the skin on my face makes me feel like a burn victum. There isn't much I can offer but, just go gentle on the scalp, and by face cream, a good one, by the gallon, and make sure you use it morning and nite. I wish you well, keep us posted on how you're doing.
Rest a lot, that helps. Anything else comes up, we're here. now smile.

I'm battling scalp sores at the moment. I know that it has be related to disease activity as everything seems very flared at the moment. I had almost forgotten how painful and annoying they are. I've been using Tea Tree shampoo, but am feeling discouraged by the number of symptoms that continue to pile on. Mine seem to get worse if I don't shampoo my hair frequently. When I'm feeling really crummy, it takes so much effort to do my hair. I recently cut it short and that has been helpful, but I find that it looks better if I straighten it. It's a catch 22. If I take the effort to put make up on and do my hair, I look better, but feel worse. Sometimes it gets to the point where I almost want people to know how crummy I'm feeling.
