I've been on Plaquenil for over a year now. I've been doing fairly well. Just a relapse in August and had to go on 20 mg of Prednisone for about a month and then weened off. This is probably a pretty silly question but...can this be the reason why my blood tests have been coming out good? (negative ANA, pretty normal sed rate and such).

I always show a high white blood and neutrophil count and have a positive p-anca still. That's still a debate as to a vasculitis issue.

Unfortunately, I am running a low grade fever now and seem to have some sinus issues happening. Hopefully, I can shake it!

Thanks for any input.

My Rheumy told me at my last visit that the Plaquenil is why all my labs are now looking so good. My Sed rate, ANA and all the Antibody tests were negative for the first time in about 4 years! I had started Plaquenil then stopped because of some side effects we weren't sure were due to it or not. I flared and restarted almost a year ago and my labs are looking better and I am feeling better than I have in quite awhile - and the side effects I had had didn't return.

Hi Michelle,

You would expect and hope the plaquenil to have this effect in helping correct abdormal bloods. It is a good thing, and indicates that your lupus is better controlled than pre medication.

I hope your current problems are short lived. Unfortunately it is the nature of lupus to have spurts of increased activity, but with the right meds they can be shorter and milder that without.

All the best,
