I have seen pictures of the rash but I am trying to see if I can get people to describe it in words. Especially when it first starts out, in the beginning.
From what you have said I know it is flat, not raised, but can you describe in any more detail?
Hi Karol,
my rash is a rash that goes over the cheeks and does actually look like a rash around the edges, the edges aren't solid lines they do look like the edge of a rash, after exposure to the sun my rash becomes raised and more sore, sometimes itchy aswell, it also get worse sometimes when my symptoms are worse. Yes after long sun exposure it raises up from the skin and you can feel the skin is rougher and where it is raised.
I didn't really know it was the malar rash until i had an episode of it raising up after sun exposure although i did suspect it. Then it was diagnosed by my rheumy as a malar rash when he saw it.
My rash is in the form of a butterfly on my face but it is more of a hyperpigmentation (dark patches unevenly margined) rather then a red rash. Im not sure if this is because I am olive skinned or if this is the result of the lupus rash when it tames down and leaves its mark. Leanne
