Hi Friends

I was prescribed Pregabalin today by my doctor. Its for pain because Iv had dreadful all over pain for several weeks. Recently diagnosed with "mild" lupus to add to my fibromyalgia dx. I posted a few weeks ago that Id had the lupus dx after about 5 years of going the rounds of various specialists and being told I was a"mystery". Still have unresolved bile duct inflammation that has caused my liver function results to shoot up. Doc doesnt want to start me on the plaquenil that was advised by the rheumy until Iv had another ultrasound scan re the bile duct problems.( a long and painfilled saga) The pregabalin is supposed to help with the fibro pain but Iv read on other threads that some have it for lupus joint and muscle pain. So here goes....I took the first dose tonight so I'll post the results. I felt a bit of a lift just because the doctor was taking my pain seriously. I know I'm not alone in feeling that the medical profession dont all accept the level of pain endured in Lupus. Thanks to all for being here. This forum is a lifesaver for me. Dont feel so alone anymore.

Luv, Mary x

Hi Mary,

Good luck with the Pregabalin (Lyrica). I hope you don't get too many unwanted side effects. If I remember correctly my daughter said it took between 4 to 6 weeks to really be effective.

Take care,

Hi Mary,

I hope the Pregabalin does eventually help you, as Lazylegs says it may take a while to give you the full effect!

When I used this medication I started off on a lower does and incresed it every 3 days up to the maximum dose 3 times a day! If you have to stop taken this med for any reason then the general advice is to tapper off too, unless of course advised otherwise by your GP or Specialist.

I hope the Ultrasound goes well and that you are able to start on the Plaquenil very soon!

Hi,

I found Lyrica to be the most effective pain reliever I had ever tried. However I couldn't tolerate the side effects. It made me excessively sleepy all the time and I couldn't concentrate at work etc. I hope it works better for you. :)

Thanks for the replies re Pregabalin. I hope I dont have too many side effects but the doctor did say that some would settle down after a week or so. So far so good. I did feel a bit tired today but thats nothing new. I dont work anymore so guess I could cope with being a bit tired as long as I suffered less pain. I'm off on holiday next week to laze about in the sun. I use sunblock and wear a hat etc so I dont trigger a flare. I dont tend to get a rash anymore but sometimes my joints flare up in the sun. I didnt connect the sun with the pain until I read it on here so now I take care when I'm on holiday. Not having my scan till the end of the month so wont get the Plaquenil yet. Hope you are all ok.
Luv, Mary x
