Does anyone have any experience of Prof Emery at Chapel Allerton in Leeds? I have been referred to him by my current consultant (my current consultant is an immunologist-I was referred to him when my local rheumy proved no help what so ever) as he feels I need more expert advice and a more aggressive form of treatment than just Plaquenil and anti inflammatories.Prof Emery is a Rheumie I am on steroid injections for pain in the mean time. Do these have any side effects?

Any experiences would be welcome as I feel abit worried:(

I'm not entirely sure if there are side effects you will notice like oral medicine side effects (stomach upset, etc.). But cortisone injections into joints should be kept to a minimum if possible; I know someone who was limited to two to treat trigger finger before he was told to get surgery. This is something worth mentioning/asking your doctor about for your particular case since it sounds like you're getting these repeatedly.

Rachel,

Gooduck with your visit to an Immunologist! I see an Immunologist for my lupus treatment in Surrey instead of a Rhuematologist and he's very good and specialises in Lupus.

Hope also the effect of the stroid injections help and for a long time, not sure bout the side effects apart from the information listed on Lazylegs links! I'm due to have steroid injections for the first time (4 in total), and hoping they will help kill the pain caused by major inflammation for a while.

Take care,

Lesley

Hello Rachel

Professor Emory is a very well known rheumatologist - google him for more info. :)
I am glad this immunologist has at last decided that you need more expert treatment. High time several months ago if you ask me.

I hope he will be able to help you to get the lupus stable and enjoy a much better quality of life. I hope the sterid injections are helping.

Hugs
Clare
