Hi everyone,
I went to doctor last week with one of my eyes real red. They thought I had pink eye and gave me some drops for it. My eye started to clear up then it spread to the other side of eye. It was very painful. I then went to my eye doctor and he told me they had misdiagnosed me and it was scleritis. He said it was arthritis in my eye. He said it may be associated with lupus. Has anyone else ever heard of this? He gave me some steroid drops for eyes and wants to see me in five days. He said it was real common and nothing to worry about and should clear up. Has anyone else had this problem? I've also had upper respiratory infection and the flu at the time I got this. Any info on this would be helpful. Hugs,
Diane

Hello Diane
I have heard of this and I think you might hear from members who have suffered from it although it seems to be not very common. From what I read online it certainly can be associated with all the connective tissue/ vasculitis type autoimmune diseases as well as some infection processes.
So maybe it is linked to the flu and URI you have had, even if not directly: perhaps the infections have triggered a lupus flare.

It sounds as if the opthalmo is taking good care of you and I hope it responds well to this treatment. It might be an idea to contact your rheumy if at all possible, especially if it's going to require further treatment.
It could be a reflection of worsening disease in general or as I say a flare which might need short term or even longer term therapy such as oral steroids or even an immunosuppressant such as Imuran. Maybe the ophthalmo will report to your rheumatologist - that's what other specialists I have seen have done.

I hope it does clear up fast - it must be a real pain in every way.

Good Luck

Thank you Clare for info. I go back to eye doctor Wednesday and then I have rheumy's appointment on Friday. I just hope and pray that it doesn't mean my lupus is getting worse. I'm still trying to get over the flu. I've been out of work for a week and have to go back tomorrow.Take Care.
