I am so sick and my throat is so swollen, honestly I don't know how air is coming in but it is. So i was told stop Immuran and did that on Wed. Told to take Steriod that day for the swelling in my throat and put on Leviquin

So my question is if I stop Immuran because it reduces my immune system so that my body can fight what I have, doesn't being put on a steriod do the same thing? Reduce my immune system? Maybe I should not have listened to them?

My throat swelling has not gone down and it is now 4 days on antibiotic and steriod, shouldn't it be by now?

Too top it all off, tomororw is work, I just don't know how I can continue to work like this.

Hi Paula,

I really can't answer the imuran/prednisolone question as I just don't know enough about it all. My understanding is that although prednsiolone can suppress the immune system up to a point it doesn't do so in the same way.

I presume it was your rheumy that said to stop the imuran?

In any case, if you still have no improvement after four days, you need to go back to the doc. Antibiotics should kick in within 48 hours, you may be resistent to the one you're taking or it isn't the right one...

Hi:

I asked my Dr the same thing (with CellCept) Response was that when they do a short high burst pf prendisone it is to reduce inflammation, continual doses will reduce the immune system.

However - 4 days is too long with no improvement...call your DR or on Call DR ASAP!

I hope you feel better really soon.

Hi Paula,

Sorry to hear you are feeling so awful . Did the doctor do a swab for strep throat on you?

I agree with Katharine and Stephanie, you should have seen some positive results in 4 days time. Definitely go back in. You may need to try a different antibiotic.

Hope you feel better soon.

Take care,

Paula,
If it has been 4 days you should be showing signs of getting better, even if they are little ones. If you have any sick days you may need to use one and take a trip to the doctor this time as it seems that what they are doing in not working. I hope you feel better soon.
