Hi:

Oooh I am so sorry...I don't have much advise on creams, however, have you tried an oatmeal bath? My They work on my grandson really well...and I remember taking them for chickenpox - they helped alot with the itching.

I hope you get relief soon.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
Do you have lupus? What meds are you on? If you tell us more we might be able to give you better suggestions.

I find with my lupus I have to take cooler showers. If it is to hot I itch something terrible. That is an awful feeling. I also use hand lotion and spread it on when ever I itch.

Take care and it is nice to meet you.

Hi Marge,

Is the itching lupus related?

Depends on what the cause of the itching is, ie its topical or systemic.

Antihistamines, and all sorts of creams might dampen down the symptoms.

Some itching is made worse by things like being dry and un moisturised, heat, too much sugar, alcohol etc.

Some rashes/iches are made worse by contact with water, hot or cold.

I natrually veered towards wearing natrual fabrics, anything else made me feel worse.

I found that in my case.

Does the itch burn?

For my serious itching I had to go on oral steroids but I tried every cream on the planet.
Topical steroids thin the skin .

I was recommended by an old friend of mine who has a PHD in the sciences that I could try using hemp oil and a welda nappy rash cream layered!. Thats as I say for an extreme condition and not necessarily directly for itching but the awful side effects a rash can have on the skin as in my case.

So it all depends

Im not sure what kind of itching you have

Have you recently changed your laundry soap, fabric softener, body soap, shampoo or conditioner? Even your dish soap, cleaning supplies could be a suspect. I have to be very careful about fragrances, some soaps really end up drying my skin out. I also make sure that the lotion I use has no wheat germ oil, or other grain additives. For me, oatmeal would be a hospital visit. I have celiac disease and anything related to those grains is a no-no. I use a body lotion made from almonds and find it is a great match for my skin.

Have you tried a cortisone cream or benadryl cream? The few times I've had itchy spots those have helped calm it down.

If this continues, I would definitely check with your dermatologist.

I take Xyzal

I take Xyzal for hives and itching. I totally know if I miss it. I guess it is the drug of choice for hives. It is a newer prescription antihystamine. I used to take Zyrtec, but this is by far better for both the itching and my allergies! It is worth trying!

I've been using "Spectro Excema Care" cream after bathing - it seems to be letting me use less of the cortisone cream, and it's safe for long term use (won't cause skin thinning the way cortisone creams can.) Spectro also makes a great very gentle cleanser called SpectroJel that I use when my malar rash is acting up - it doesn't sting the way most cleansers do...
