Hi all, do any of you have any pain in the spine? I find my spine aches at the point of an old injury when in a bad flare. My memory is affected and my legs feel like they will give way . I am in a bad flare since October and my knees are killing me all of the time . The pain runs right down to the ankles and the feet. I worry about loosing the ability to walk. Is this CNS involvement?

Hi Pollianna,
I don't know if it's the same, but my muscles especially in my legs hurt like nobody's businesss when I'm "flaring". Sometimes (especially lately) my joints have hurt ridiculously too.

Even if it does affect your ability to walk, it's not the end of the world. When I'm not flaring I can run around with the best of them short term (just give me that flexeril and 13 hours of sleep afterwards, sheesh!) and honestly the muscles work pretty well aside from walking most of the time. i.e. I cycle, dance, do martial arts, stretch, etc.

I use a walker 90% of the time and my wheelchair around 5% of the time. The other 5% of walking is to and from the bathroom or the kitchen. :) But I think I'm flaring more than not, and I definitely had some days last semester when I walked everywhere and only used my walker for the airport or huge long treks around campus.

Take care!

Hi,
I do get terrible pai in my spine and my head goes all to pot too when I feel worse and my legs go really weak. But as you know, my trip to the neuro did not produce anything, so am not sure if this is related.
I do know that spinal injury can cause nerve damage and that inflammation form lupus can aslo cause nerve damage and the function of the CNS. I have spondilitis aswell, this is arthritis of the cervical spine, so not sure how much os the pain relates to this.
There is also the issue of inflammation in the muscles causing weakness aswell.
I aslo have a real deterioration in my mobility over the last year and have difficulty getting about most of the time but some days or periods worse than others. But no definitive answers for me yet either

If I were you I would definately mention this to your doc and try to give some examples of how things affect you.

I really hope you get to the bottom of this as it is a worry.

Good Luck.

Take Care.

Hi Pollianna,

The referral of the pain going down the legs to the feet brings sciatica to mind. The pain begins in the lower back, into the buttock and down the legs. There can be pain, muscle weakness, numbness and tingling. Anyone that has had it will tell you it is extremely uncomfortable.

Take care,

Hi Polianna,
my friend has sciatica and Lazy legs is right that this can cause awful ain in the lower back and travelling down th eback of the legs, its realted to the nerves I think. My friend had a procedure to block the nerves and has been much better since then but before he had this he could not move on some days.

Good Luck

Take Care
