This is a weird one

I was up at St Tommy's Thursday, was a long day and had to get up at 6 to get there. I had a complete neurological exam and the doc messed about with my feet checking them moving the joints. I stood on one leg, then the other without problems. Came home and took the antimalarials. I woke up this morning and couldn't walk on my left foot. The bone connected to my big toe is killing me and the pain goes all the way up to the knee. I managed to get out to buy some food but limped very badly. Driving was so painful but it eased as the day went on

Ate tonight , took my pill and slept, just woke up and again the pain is incredible, can't walk on it. I'm so worried as I live alone and there's no one to help me if this doesn't go away  I can hobble with my stick and put pressure on the side of the foot Pain is radiating up my leg even tho I'm laying down now and the foot is burning.....They didn't give me any pain meds or advice on what to take with the antimalarials. My memorys so bad I still can't remember the name of them.....My spine hurts and my knees are burning

Anyone experienced anyhting similar to this?

Hi Pollianna

Its hard to say what might be wrong but it sounds like all that manipulation on your joints may have inflamed something. The only words of comfort I can give you is that occasionally I get this type of 'symptom'. What I mean is that I could wake up one morning and try and put my foot to the floor and it just 'gives out' with excrutiating pain. If I didnt know better Id nearly swear I had broken a bone in it overnight! This can sometimes last for a day or so but usually never more than two/three days.

Funny enough it happened me yesterday morning for the first time in a few months. Its still sore this morning (about 24 hours later) but is definitely easing off. Like you, driving was painful, walking was most difficult (and dangerous!) because my foot just wouldnt take the weight bearing pain. I had to be extra careful on stairs and steps yesterday in case it went from under me.

I find that what can help is a support bandage and being very careful when you are moving around. Obviously if it starts swelling or wont go away then it needs checking out just in case. If you dont have any prescription painkillers then some over the counter ones might help a bit. Also if you can bathe the foot for a while and it seems to be helping it might lean towards inflammation being the cause.

Just be very careful when walking, particularly on the stairs ok?

Let us know how you are and if it improves or you need to get it checked out.

Hope it disappears soon for you:hugbetter:

Another thing that sometimes helps me with this kind of thing is rubbing in some anti-inflammatory gel a few times a day. Sometimes it works wonders on "local" inflammation.

I really hope it clears up for you quickly. I have something similar this morning in the joints between toes and ball of foot on my left foot (that was the better of the two heel wise) so I now have no idea how to walk with both heels inflamed and that. Still, hopefully it'll pass.

I hope things improve very soon for you (((all.)))
It might be worth mentioning here a condition called "plantar fasciitis" which can be excruciating. Luckily I had it only once for 2/3 mornings on getting up. Using anti inflammatory creams as Katharine suggested is one suggested way of getting some relief.

Mine is the bone connected to the toe, the big round one, am sure it was the exam and the walking at 6am....

Took an anti inflammatory and used the gel on it. It's wearing off. tomorrow will tell

Thanks you guys

Pollianna,
Is it possible to get back in touch with the doctors office that you had the visit with and let them know what is going on and if there is anything they can give you for the pain or for the problem. It is possible that you have imflamed something or pulled something the wrong way. The pain meds will help with the pain but not solve the problem. If there is swelling with it use the heat to easy that. If you are unable to get in touch with that doctor ring up your gp and ask if they can do anything to help. Let us know how things are going with you please. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Tammy, still no improvement  am gettin worried.

Tonight I took 2 asprin with 2 paracetamol, one diclofenac (only take in emergencies) and put anti inflammatory cram on the foot, took the edge off barely. I have muscle spasms in both calves and at the front of my legs, both feet are bad but the left one is worse. The knees are going and my spine hurts. I don't like those Neuro exams :( I will need my walking stick tomorrow.

I will go see the pharmacist tomorrow and get some heavy duty pain meds. My GP doesn't really have an idea what to do with me usually. They all seem to just hand out diclofenac like sweets :worried:
