Sulfite sensitivity/allergy

Can I ask what peoples experiences have been of this?
Do you know what has caused it, and how does your body react?
And does it wax and wane with your flares?
I ask because I get slightly worse after certain squashes, and I've had bad reactions to dental anesthetic in the past, but it can be ok sometimes so I have no idea whether it's a sensitivity, or just bad timing!
As usual, all your comments are appreciated!

Viridian,
One good test of sulphite reaction is if you feel "kicked in the kidneys" after red wine. I have this myself and have heard of it quite often.

Ooh! Thank you! I'll have to try that. I dont normally drink (once every few months) and when I do, I normally have a spirit of some kind. I've read that white wine has more sulfites in than red though. Does red still effect you more?
Thanks!

Hi Viridian,

The sulfite from preservatives in foods and wine is very different to sulfur (sulfonamide) medications that some lupies have problems with. Just wondered if you were getting confused?

Thanks once again for your wisdom Lily. You're right, I was!
I dont think I've ever had any sulfonamide meds tbh. If I have, I've never made the connection (if I was already bad at the time), or I haven't reacted.
So, I guess it'll be a 'don't know'!
Will still keep an eye on the preservatives thing. I had a filling come out the other day (they always do!) and I'm scared of going to the dentist in case I need an injection (and I react to the bisulfite). Must pull myself together! ;)

alisiajo-sorry to hear what happened to you! I guess at least you can look out for it now.:worried:

Everyone else- thanks once again for your inputs. Every little helps! :D
