Hi Everyone

I was just wandering if anyone else has these symptoms? (I am not diagnosed yet, but my normal doc, thinks I have Lupus and I have an appointment with a specialist next week for Biopsy's and tests)

I can't touch material with my hands or the bottom of my feet. Its like the nerve endings are raw and it shoots straight up into my teeth.
It seems to be getting worse all the time. My hands constantly tingle.
I don't actually know how I dress myself and my kids everyday anymore.

The worst is towels. I really battle to touch towels.
I realize that there are different types of Lupus and everyone is different, with different symptoms, but does anyone else experience something similar?

Hi Whisper,

Yikes! Sorry to hear you are having such horrible pain :(.

In the past I have had discomfort as fabric moved on my arms and legs. It usually happened at the beginning of a flare. However it was not the shocking pain you have described. It sounds to me like you have something neurological going on. Has your doctor said anything about a neuro consult?

Good luck with your appointment next week. I hope the tests reveal the cause so you can start some kind of treatment to relieve your symptoms.

Take care,

what are your hands/feet like when they are not touching material ?

Sometimes neuropathic pain can be triggered by touching fabric (eg a sheet brushing across a foot or hand is classic), but the neuropathy hurts at other times too.

Neuropathy can be caused by lupus, but it can be caused by many other things too, although it is often idiopathic (of no known cause).

Most people with neuropathy don't have lupus, but if you do happen to have lupus and neuropathy then it is a reasonable bet that lupus caused the neuropathy.

hope this makes sense -

cheers
