Well today was the day they tested my daughter for lupus. We did not even say anything to the gp when we went in she seen her arm asked if I was her mom and said we are sending you to lab for tests for lupus. We had talked to the nurse and she said we could look into it at this appointment but before we could ask the doctor about anything she wanted it done anyway :rotfl:. So my daughter looks at me and says it will only be a couple tubes right. I did not say a word. If she had knew what they were taking she would of run for the hills. Ok you take the first tube, than tube 2, than she grabs for another tube and this was her face . She could not help herself how many tubes of blood do you think you need to take for one little disease she said. Thank goodness the lady taking it had a since of humor she said one the rest are so when you get famous, I have something to sell on ebay. In all they took 7 tubes of blood she is getting the works. She gots to get up and about fell to the floor. So the nurse had her lay down and went and got her some juice from their breakroom, I thought that was very nice of her. She had her sit there for about 15-20 minutes and still looking a bit green, agreed to finally let her try again. This time we made it to the car. I got her in the car and then I got in and looked at her and she started to cry. I asked her what was wrong and she did not know. I thought the best thing was to take her home and get her into bed as she still did not look all that good. I just called her and checked on her and she seems to be doing a little better since she got a couple hours of sleep. I thought I would let you all know they finally did the lab work today. She has a return appointment for April 23 and that is when we find out what is going on we hope. So many of you have been so caring by asking how she is doing and feeling so I do want to keep you updated as it goes along. I sometimes forget even though she is 20 how big a baby she can be at times. She even made me hold her hand, thank god she did not want to sit on my lap as that would of been a real problem :rotfl:.

I hope all are feeling well and doing well.

Hey girl,

I am so glad that your daughter had the blood work done and hopefully it will yield some answers. I am sorry that she is still not feeling well. I thought maybe she would be a little better by now.

Good luck at the follow up appointment and I know you will keep us posted.

Guess you did not warn her about Rheumatologist being blood sucking hounds.:lol::lol::lol::lol:

They took 23 tubes out of me during one of my visits.

I did not think I had any blood left in my body.

Anyhoo, keep us posted and you are a awesome mom Tammy.:wink2:

Hi Tammy,

I am a chicken like your daughter. Although you would think I would be use to giving lots of blood.;)

I will be thinking of you and your daughter. I know how much stress is on you worrying about your daughter.
Take care both of you.
Love,
Lyn

Hi Tammy,

I'm so glad that the doc went ahead and suggested that without you having to ask. I'm sure that it will put your mind at rest as whatever way it turns out, it is better to know.

My eldest would probably be like that with needles but he knows that he'll get no sympathy from me  The youngest is the type to laugh when he sees blood going into the tube (yep he did that when he was three).

Hi Tammy

I am glad that the appt at the docs went well, hopefully the tests will resolve the matter one way or the other. Sorry that your daughter still isnt well though, I hope that she picks up soon. I'm sure that she was grateful that she had you there to support her. Take it easy yourself, and keep us updated.

Sending you both hugs

Hi Tammy

Its amazing how easy we somehow get used to the amount of blood that is drawn from us. Its only when its seen through someone elses eyes that it brings home thats it not the usual, run of the mill type of blood testing. I must say though, I was slightly thrown a few months ago when the phlebotomy nurse was getting ready to do my bloods and squawked out loud 'How many tubes???!!!' Jeepers, you would have thought she would have been used to it by now! ;)

Im sorry your daughter is unwell and having to go through this but as you know from experience if this does turn out to be an autoimmune problem then she is best knowing sooner rather than later.

Much hugs to you both

Hi Everyone,
I wanted to thank you all for your support and encouraging words. You are all right that it is better to know rather than not know. I am doing ok with this as I do believe that she is showing the early signs of lupus. The thing is she don't handle pain well and that will be the hardest for her and for me. I love her so much but the complaining of the pain will start to get on my nerves. I will have to find a way to be patient with her I do know that. She is also really scared so I have to remember that also. She sees me and really don't want to be like me in that part. She don't mind acting like me and looking like me but having lupus like me she could do without. I will let you all know how things are going. She woke up this morning so stiff on her left side that I had to call the doctor again to see if I could give her an ultram for the pain she was having and she said it would be fine and if that helped her she would order her some of her own. If it did not help to call in the morning and she would see what samples she had to try for the discomfort. Is this what it is like for our other family members that live with us? It might be harder on me right now because I myself am still not feeling real well myself. We will find a way to get through this because we have to and we will. I hope all are feeling well and doing well.

Tammy

I can so empathise with you. I had a recent scare with my daughter - wont go into it right now but suffice to say I couldnt have imagined her getting this kind of diagnosis but its regularly in the back of my mind.

You will both be supported here if the worst comes to the worst. Remember...she is only a kid starting out on life so this worry will be having a huge impact on her, Stay close to her.

Much love

Again the site has done more than I could of imagined for me and now offering to also help my daughter should she be found to have lupus. Many of you know how it feels to have one or more of your children found to have lupus, for that I am very sorry. For anyone that asked how old my daughter is she is 20yrs. old now. We are both trying to be brave as we don't have any answers yet and won't for a month. It seems the old saying comes into play again when it rains it pours. I did want everyone to know that she is about the same right now so at least she is not getting worse right now. I hope everyone is feeling well and doing well.
