I thought it might be cheering to have place for us to record happy events of all sorts, things that bring us pleasure or joy, and our achievements. We often need to focus on the positive and I truly hope that everybody will be able to contribute however small and share in each other's pleasures.
I have been feeling so sad this week since my best and oldest friend died. At grim times, it is a comfort to have a pleasure to contemplate.

Today I noticed that one of my orchids is starting to bloom for the third time, the second this year, with a whole new branch to the existing two. Another is sprouting a new main stem. I have an amaryillis entering its third year and a healthy off shoot from it that I potted up this summer. I don't know when or if it can be expected to bloom. Since I don't have a garden and these are my only flowering pot plants, this is quite a thrill.

I achieved an ambition this weekend that's only taken a pathetic 3 years to accomplish :hehe:,how to use photoshop, printing off photos of my paintings to make into Christmas cards. Not only that, but I actually have the cards ready earlier then ever before. :)

Hugs for all

Dear Clare,
This thread is a good idea, I really believe in celebrating even the smallest of good things.
I am so pleased you mastered Photoshop-not one of my strong points, I tend to erase people's whole heads rather than just the tree that appears to be growing out of them.

Fantastic idea Clare!

I have pruchased my first orchid for myself. Often buy them for others, but this is the first of my very own. It was £1.00 from the bargain basket at B & Q and rather battered, but it was a major triumph to me to get one so cheaply. It is near my computer so I can keep an eye on it.

No idea when / if / how you know whether or not to pot them on - any help appreciated.

My other triumph this week - I have single-handedly assembled a double ktichen base unit from a flat pack. Now all I need is to learn how to fit my old kithen sink into the thing and over a bit of worktop!

And it only took me 5 cups of tea, 3 slices of cake and about 2 hours with radio 4 on in the background ... bliss. Sad but true!

I aam envious of your photoshop skills as this is on my list of things to learn.

Clare:

What a great thread. Great Job on the photoshop, I leave that to my hubby!

My youngest grandson has been in the hospital and was taken off his IV feeds today and will come home tomorrow! It wasn't anything too major but quite a scare for us as he has sever birth defects and everything is so difficult. He had a viscous ear infection that caused high fever and nauseau so he got dehydrated.

So that's my good news! 'm back to the hospital to relieve my son for a few hours on crib watch!

My exciting news is that I put a deposit down for a new puppy that will hopefully come to my house this Spring. I can't wait for puppy kisses and the excitement and fun a new pup will bring to our household, and how happy it will make my little girl to get a puppy for the first time. She's grown up with dogs... but this will be her first experience with a puppy.

Lovely!

We had a great time on Halloween, beautiful weather and everyone was out, I even made the walk around the neighborhood which is rare. It was great. I'll see if I can link a photo of the girls. Little Red Riding Hood and a Pumpkin Cat.

What a lovely thread to start 'thanks Clare'!

Well our family is so excited and proud as our eldest child (age 9) has got the part of 'John' in a local theatre Panto 'Peter Pan' this Christmas. Daniel is more excited than us though, he loves the theatre world .

My good news is that I have just come back from our little holiday and I'm still alive and, so far, feeling none the worse for wear.

We had a fabulous time and I was finally able to meet a long distance friend who has become very close and dear to me :)

positive thinking

A good idea Clare, isn't the whole world all in love with BAD news and negativity...it never gets anything done. My good news is that my wee sister is almost definitely going to see David D'Cruz on25th of this month. She is trying to look lightly at all probs of getting there, ie flying from Belfast, getting Oxygen sorted etc. Could anyone suggest a hotel very close to the Bridge hospital? Thanks in advance, Anne

The good news on this front is that an absolutely wonderful friend of mine (and her lovely husband) from Europe just left Athens today after spending the last five or so days with us here!

The absolutely fabulous side of this is that we had a wonderful time, ate a lot of souvlaki and experienced no medical emergencies of any kind!!! :excited:Brilliant, brilliant stuff indeed!!!!! 8)

Lovely idea Clare and sorry to hear about your friend
After a very stressful fortnight the one thing that filled me with cheer was a deer skipping across the road infront of me(luckilly quite a way in front)just trotted out from the hedge and the gorgeous sunset we had here the night before last.

Two things, My Magician Son Luke entertained at a David Cassidy appearance yesterday. Also he has a TV audition lined up next week. I am more nervous than he is. It is at County Hall, on the South Bank. Near enough to pop into St. Thomas' for a Pizza!

What a great idea for a thread, thanks Clare.

I have been busy with College Seminars, Applications, Letters of Recommendation, Building a Portfolio, doing college resumes, etc...and applying to different colleges for my son. He is a senior in high school and is going to start Nursing school in September 2009.

He eventually wants to go on to be a Nurse Anesthetist and around here they make about $150,000 a year to start. I think he will go even further to become a Psychologist. He just loves Psychology.

Having something to busy my time has been good for me and I am living out my college dream vicariously through him.:wink2::wink2::wink2:

Actually, I think I may go back to college and get that degree that I never got before..........when I was young and dumb.:p

I guess life for me at the moment couldnt be grander. The past 2 3/4 years have been horrific, but everything has fell into place.

I stopped working about 2 1/2 yrs ago, just couldn't do it anymore. Fought my own Social Security claim and won it myself. I settled last May so now life is a little less stressful on hubby,

My daughter will graduate with an LPN in Dec. and off to Scranton for he RN. I truly believed this day would never come. My oldest son was excepted in Nursing school and will start in Jan 09, A future for him as either a Nurse Anestisist or a PA. Whatever he chooses I'll always love him.

Then, Another fight for 3 years was a Comp case (work injuryin which one of my students beat the ever loving daylights out of me) that took forever and a day to settle, and the letter came yesterday..........yes!!! Unfortunatly, I have a 40% loss of my right arm, but the insurance co has agreed to settle with a very nice payout. Prayers really do work. Now, maybe I can get on with my life. Move out of state like I want to.

So you see, I do have much to be thankful for.

HI all,
This is a good idea Clare!
My good news is that my little boy who is 16mths has had squints in both his eyes and I have been really worried about this as to whether or not he would need an operation or patches etc and lots of different interventions re eyes when he was so small.
Well we went to the hospital to have his first lot of tests last week and the opthalmologist said that the machine had picked up that he has severe long sightedness which I know means that he will have to wear classes but atleast it does mean that his squints will correct themselves she said that it has been caused by him struggling to focus.
For me this really was good news as I really don't mind that he will have to wear glasses, I am just so glad that have found the problem, I wondered what it must be like to be so small and have blurry vision etc.
He's going back next week to have further tests and assess his prescription for his glasses, I think he'll look really cute. What a relief!!

Take Care All

Cassie :)

Clare T,

I agree as I just posted a new thread in the living with lupus. I wanted to share some good news myself. It is just as important to share in each others joy as it is to share in questions and concerns of each other. I have been here since the beginning of Ocoter and I feel like this is my second family.

I wanted to say that I am sorry about your friend and hope that you find comfort in that she is in a better place and looking out for you now. My thoughts are with you in your time of sadness and joy.
