Hi there...can anyone tell me is thrush in your mouth quite common with Lupus ?
I have a sore mouth with little white spots and alot of redness generally....and my tongue is sensitive and sore ! Could this be thrush ?
I am still recovering from a 6 week flare and my steroid dose was higher than usual....just wondering if this might have set off this "thrush" ??

Hi Ali,

I don't know very much about this but I do know that steroids can set this off both in the mouth and elsewhere. It's important to try and avoid sugar and yeast based products to help it clear up more quickly.

I'm afraid my "knowledge" stops there.

Hi Ali, yes this is very common in sjorens. I think it may be an overlap thing with Lupus. In march last yr I had a very bad flare, was soo ill. I had the worst oral and (other) thrush that I had ever had in my life. I had to take the duo thing they sell to clear it up. I had no idea that it was related to my illness and never mentioned it to the GP or the specialist. I bought the Lupus book and it's mentioned there. I googled sjorens and found it there. Isn't it so weird? Do you have very dry eyes?

Hi Ali...very very common with people with immune problems...and especially if your on an immune supresent drug...
I suffer very badly iolly too with it..
Although the stuff your gp can give you is good...its best to try and prevent it...

I have live bio yogurt every morning..

It works a treat ..i have it poured over sliced Banana with a tablespoon of honey....

Early on, I had this a lot. It finally settled down once I started to use a alcohol free pre-dental rinse. (plax) Then I used a baking soda based toothpaste and followed with a fluoride rinse. I used ACT, but the original style, not the one with alcohol in it.

Using that regimen I finally was able to get rid of the thrush.

:p:p Really timely question for me. Could anyone tell me what thrush looks like?

Ew-gross - I get a nasty white tounge from dry mouth, or so I thought. Rheumy mentioned it at the last visit, to look out for thrush. Just haven't had time to look in to it that closely.

Does anyone else know?

If you have thrush, you need to get an oral niastatin rinse. I had thrush in Oct after being intibated and in a coma for a month. I am not sure it I got it from the intibation or just part of the lupus. You should really see a doctor to get a perscription to get rid of it. Don't try a home remedy if this is what you have.

tbunny,
thrush is white spots in your mouth. They can be very sensitive to different foods. You need to rinse mouth out with a niastatin rinse several times a day to get rid of it. The rinse taste horrible too.

Good luck to both of you with this.
Have a wonderful day everyone!

So just having a white tounge does not indicate thrush? Would the white spots be all over the mouth, or just on the tounge? Guess I should just go google this, eh?

Thanks for the reply Jyneal. :p:p
