Hi Everyone

Just wondering if anyone can shed any light! 2 monthes ago i had a very nasty cold which led to a abcuss in me inner ear drum, which then burst and perforated me ear drum.... since then me hearing has never fully recovered and i have been getting some odd noises going on in ear! I went to Doc friday to be told i have no infection and every think is clear and its Tinitus and i have to wait 4 more weeks to see if it goes before me doc will book a app to see a specialist as he says it takes 3 monthes for a ear to fully recover! Now the question is I have done some research and i have found that one site is saying it can be conected to a auto immune disease! ( clare i need ya help mate) is this right? any one else have this prob if so what are the tests the hospital are likely to do and what can they do to help!

Hi Lou,

I have auto-immune Menieres Disease. Very few people test positive for this, I was just one of the lucky ones! :) There are auto-immune related illness of the ear, but I wouldn't jump to any conclusions just yet.

I have in fact lost 50% of my hearing in both ears, aside from all of the other symptoms that go along with Menieres. It started out where everyone thought I had an ear infection, then I saw a specialist.

Just see what the specialist has to say it could be that the absess you had effected the nerve endings in the middle ear and that is where the odd noises are coming from...in your case it may just be time is needed to further heal.

Good Luck

I had a ruptured ear drum too due to an ear infection - and it was a good month before the hearing started returning to normal, and I had some strange noises from time to time. By 2.5 months I think it was almost normal, and it was certainly normal by 3-4 months.

The referral doctor - if you need one - will probably do some very thorough hearing tests on you to see what you hear well still and what you don't hear so well. That's what I was told would happen at least if I didn't feel things would clear up soon - but I never needed to go after all.

Good luck with that ear!

Oh! Big Hugs to you Lou. My Son Jason was dx with Tinntus in both ears when he was 16. He now 23. He was dx through the hospital. They didn't have any treatment for him. He has a different noise in each ear 24/7. Jason says he has just learned to live with it. He listens to a radio at night, so to not make the ear noises so bad as its worse when he trying to sleep. Hope yours clears up for it you.

Hi Lou,

I get this problem when I flare. ENT said the ear canals and tubes were extremely inflamed and this is what causes the humming/buzzing noises.

They can drive you crazy! He actually put me on zyrtec (allergy med) and antiinflammatory meds and it was gone within 2 months.

Hope you have lots of quiet nights ahead and you continue to feel better and get some sleep!
