Hello,

Since my symptoms started in mid- August with Muscle and joint pain, I have lost about 10lbs.
I have read my weight can be effected by Lupus....
Does anyone know why this is ?
Will my weight eventualy come back to normal or should I invest in new clothes?

Currently on since Nov 3rd
10 mg prednisone and 400 mg Paquinel...

Hi Redfox,

It's very common for this to happen and you should put some weight back on once your symptoms and disease are under better control. I know you haven't been on Plaquenil very long so it will take some months for that to happen. In the meantime make sure your GP (or Rheumy if you are seeing them soon) does a full blood count as there are other causes of weight loss anemia for one.

Hope things improve for you soon,

love

Hi there,

Just another thought. You haven't been on prednisolone for too long and some people do gain weight with that so do just be careful that you don't gain too much in the wrong way. Remember to cut down salt in your diet to a minimum too as that can encourage water retention.

I would agree with Lily that your normal weight should come back relatively quickly quite naturally.

Hi Redfox,

My weight changes up and down depending on what medications I am on. Just to cover all circumstances I don't get rid clothing. In my closet I have a range of 3 sizes.

Take care,

whenever i have a flare, i tend to lose 10 lbs or so. (which isn't good because i have no weight to lose) it usually takes me a couple of years to regain the weight because my metabolism is so fast. i'm still not dx with lupus but my test results are borderline. my father has lupus and when he has a flare, he loses weight just like me and it takes him just as long to regain the lost weight. i do know that lupus flare and weight loss do go hand in hand. however, if you take predisone, that can cause you to gain weight.
