Hey Gina,

I'm sorry to hear that things are so bad for you at present.:( I struggled for about 6 weeks with not knowing what was wrong with me and that's what makes it difficult to deal with.....

To be honest the thing that makes it easier to deal with is knowing it's not cancer.......

I know you have kids and it will be difficult - but do try to get as much 'rest' as you can and don't feel guilty about doing nothing and having the occasional cry!

This site's good so it'll be a help to get info from people 'suffering' like you.

All the best.

Hi Blue Moon,
Welcome to the site.
Sorry you are feeling so bad. I have kids too and it is very difficult but atleast they keep me going and give me a focus away from myself and feeling awful, its like a double edge sword really!!!

I really hope things get better for you.

Is the doctor you are seeing a rheumatologist or your gp?

Has your gp referred you tp a rheumatologist?

Good Luck

Take Care

Cassie :)

Hello Gina and welcome :)

I'm sorry you have been feeling so rough lately but glad that your doctor is taking it seriously and doing some tests.

If I understand correctly she hasn't started you on any treatment but is doing a "wait and see" for a month? Have you been suffering from these pains etc. for long?

I presume that the test she has done is an ANA test. It is a basic screening test for auto-immune diseases and, when high, can be indicative of lupus or something similar.

Even if your family doctor is taking this seriously and has done some tests, it would be good when you go back in a month to ask for a referral to a rheumatologist as, if it is lupus, it is complex and needs a specialist. You need one that deals with auto-immune diseases (they don't all). You can get recommendations here via the "find a doc" section of the board. The rheumatologist can do further, more specific testing to be sure that it is indeed lupus and can also start you on treatment.

Treatment has greatly improved over the years and although it may take some time to fine tune for you, it can make a huge difference to life.

A lot of us have children, husbands, jobs...and have had the same worries as you but, in the end, we all manage to adjust and learn to do things differently if need be.

You need to remember that the posts on these boards are not necessarily representative of the lupus community in general. The people who post here are often "newly diagnosed", "not yet diagnosed" or the rarer more severely affected people. Many lupus patients have gone back to pretty much normal lives with their treatment and they simply don't have time to come and post here :)

Feel free to ask questions, we're here to help as much as we can,
hugs

Hi Blue Moon,

Welcome to the site.

It is very scary when you are first diagnosed. You read all these symptoms and panic. Just remember that most people do not get all the symptoms. Each of our bodies reacts differently. In the beginning I was very ill. Once the medications started working I was able to work and raise my family. Hopefully that will be the case for you also.

Please feel free to post with any questions you have. People here are more than willing to help. Also stop in the chat room. It is a great way to get some instant feedback and chat with others feeling the same way you do.

Take care,
Lazylegs
